Honda Racing Team voted best team of the year
TouringCarTimes readers voted for the Honda Racing Team as the best team of the 2011 British Touring Car Championship season, with strong showings for Motorbase and Rob Austin Racing.
The team won the manufacturers’ title for a second year running, and took their first drivers’ title since 2006 again with Matt Neal, with Gordon Shedden making it a 1-2 finish in the standings.
TouringCarTimes readers voted heavily in favour of the Worcestershire-based team in the poll, taking 41% of the vote.
“To win the best team award from the readers of TouringCarTimes is a fantastic achievement for every member of Honda Racing at the end of what has at times, been a very challenging season,” said Honda Racing Team Manager Peter Crolla.
“Everybody involved in the programme has really pulled together as a team and given everything they have to winning the championships this year and we’re very fortunate to have those people involved.”
“The team is also supported by so many people at Honda UK and Honda of the UK Manufacturing whose contribution to Honda Racing has been invaluable. We’re currently working hard on the 2012 Honda Civic which we are aiming to run early in the new year. We’re hoping that car will give us the same platform on which to mount our 2012 championship challenge as this year’s.”
Motorbase Performance, which switched to the Ford Focus ST this year, featured strongly in the vote coming in second place with 12%, just ahead of series newcomers Rob Austin Racing. Rob Austin’s team was one of the teams which entered with the new Next Generation Touring Car specification cars with two Audi A4s.
