Gordon Shedden wins in the wet at Thruxton

Honda Yuasa Racing’s Gordon Shedden has won the second race at Thruxton, started under the safety car due to the treacherous wet conditions.

Race one winner Mat Jackson led the field away after two safety car laps, immediately building margin on second placed Dave Newsham. From there the battle for second began with Newsham coming under pressure from the NGTC MG6 of Jason Plato. Plato in turn was facing pressure from a charging Gordon Shedden who had made his way up into fourth from his starting position of sixth.

Shedden was the first mover in the battle pack, taking third from Plato and second from Newsham shortly after. Plato was also able to overtake Newsham, moving into third. Shedden began to slash Jackson’s leading margin, overtaking him for the lead of the race at The Complex only a few laps after he had moved into second.

It wasn’t the only podium changing move involving Jackson at the Complex with Plato overtaking him for second on lap 13. Behind them Frank Wrathall overtook Newsham for fourth at the same corner on that lap. By the final lap Wrathall had closed the gap to Jackson but the Motorbase Performance driver was able to hold him off.

After starting from the back of the grid after the first corner lap one incident in the first race, Andrew Jordan was one of the biggest movers of the race crossing the line in tenth after 16 laps. The Motorbase Performance mechanics were able to get the Ford Focus of Liam Griffin out for the second race after his big race one shunt, with crossing the line in 17th. After not participating in the first race Dan Welch announced before the third that he would be racing in races two or three either.

The top nine finishing positions are to be reversed for race three, which means Tony Gilham will be on pole. Race three is scheduled to start at 17:17 GMT.
