Jason Plato confident MG will bounce back after summer
Jason Plato picked up a championship boosting win in race three at Croft, despite suffering a DNS in race one, exactly as he did two weeks ago at Oulton Park – and expects the Triple Eight MG will come back stronger at the next round at Snetterton in seven weeks.
Plato won the third race of the day after starting fourth in the reversed grid race, dropping behind the fast-starting rear-wheel drive BMWs at the start but steadily moved up the order and went on to take his second win of the season, and stays within fighting distance of the two Honda drivers.
“It’s important to go away on a positive note after a pretty (rubbish) weekend in all honesty,” said Plato to TouringCarTimes. “But the most important thing is we’ve made a change to the car which has completely validated our development cycle. ”
“I’m very confident, we’ve got a direction, we’ll come back as per usual after the summer break and we’ll kick some arse.”
Jason Plato had to fight forward on race day, after qualifying in fifth place for race one, but stopped out on track with an electrical problem and missed the first race. In race two he drove from the back of the grid up to seventh place, which gave him the chance to fight at the front in race three.
“It’s not our problem, it’s bolt-on parts,” said Plato. “TOCA, whilst they do brilliant things, they’re also not perfect – so they’ve got to look at their suppliers and they’ve got to look at the way they’re building and designing parts, because they’re not good enough at the moment.”
“But that can not only strike me, it can strike other people, it’s one of those things but TOCA have got to sharpen up because the parts aren’t good enough.”
Jason Plato remains third in the drivers’ championship, 29 points behind championship leader Matt Neal and 21 points ahead of independent drivers Rob Collard and Andrew Jordan.
