Rob Collard leads the way for West Surrey Racing in FP2
Rob Collard outpaced the two local drivers Gordon Shedden and Dave Newsham in FP2 to go fastest of all in the second free practice session for BMW.
Rob Collard and Honda’s Gordon Shedden were the only two drivers to occupy the top spot on the time sheets during the 40 minute session. Shedden set a fast benchmark of 53.092 within the first ten minutes, which was slightly slower than his time from this morning’s session, before the red flag came out after West Surrey Racing’s Tom Onslow-Cole went off at Scotsman Corner.
After the session resumed, Onslow-Cole’s team-mate Rob Collard set a time of 52.920 to go fastest with 15 minutes to go, which was never bettered during the rest of the session. Gordon Shedden ended up second fastest, with Dave Newsham making a late improvement to go third in the Team ES Racing Vauxhall Vectra.
Andrew Jordan was fourth in the Eurotech Racing Honda Civic ahead of Nick Foster’s BMW 320si. The two Toyota Avensises of Adam Morgan and Paul O’Neill were sixth and seventh respectively.
Mat Jackson broke into the top ten in the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus ST, but was forced to miss the end of the session with a broken push-rod. Championship leader Matt Neal completed the top ten in the Honda Civic, whilst the two Triple Eight MGs struggled for pace with Jason Plato and Andy Neate 14th and 15th fastest.
Qualifying gets underway at 15:05 BST.
