Chris Stockton to drive Vauxhall Insignia
Former BTCC racer Chris Stockton is going to drive the remaining BTCC races in Thorney Motorsport’s Vauxhall Insignia.
“I have always loved the British Touring Car Championship and racing the Insignia this weekend represents a chance for me to get a good idea about exactly what the New Generation Touring Cars are all about. It looks like an exciting time to join with the new the regulations proving to be a great success,” said Stockton.
The 43-year-old last raced in the BTCC in 2008, driving a Lexus and a SEAT to finish 18th overall, and has most recently been driving GT in Europe.
Stockton is going to test at Pembrey next week and the Brit is aiming to drive full season in the BTCC next year.
“I am open minded about which way to go with my plans to race in the category full time next year. I am open to discussion with teams for 2013, or we can run a car under the BTC Racing banner. The Insignia has shown signs of potential this season, and I want to try and improve on its results by utilising two days testing this week at Pembrey in Wales. I will be able to use the last two meetings to introduce the Championship to existing sponsor Ningbo, plus several Ningbo partners who love the idea of being involved with the BTCC,” said Stockton.
