Andrew Jordan fastest in second practice at Donington
Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan set the fastest time in an entertaining second practice session at Donington Park.
Times started to tumble in the final five minutes as drivers set out on qualifying runs, and it was Jordan who finished top with a time of 1.10.046. His second best time of 1.10.175 would also have been good enough for first.
Jason Plato was second in his Triple Eight MG, 0.187 behind, ahead of Honda Racing Team’s Gordon Shedden, Plato’s team-mate Sam Tordoff and Shedden’s team-mate Matt Neal.
Dave Newsham, Frank Wrathall, Adam Morgan, Jeff Smith and Aron Smith completed the top 10.
Plato was the first driver to set a competitive time in the first 10 minutes with a 1.10.917, which he quickly brought down to a 1.10.542. Jordan then matched this time to the thousandth, before two quick laps from Shedden elevated him to the top.
Jordan set the fastest lap with two minutes to go, before improving again on his next – and final – lap of the session.
The West Surrey Racing BMW 125i machines were off the pace, with Colin Turkington in 12th the best of the trio.
A notable performance came from Jack Goff, who finished 13th in his Tony Gilham Racing Vauxhall Insignia, having run as high as 11th during the session.
James Kaye was again fastest of the Jack Sears Trophy runners, his time of 1.12.222 netting him 20th overall in his AmD Tuning Volkswagen Golf.
Conditions had improved yet further from this morning’s session, with track temperatures topping 34 degrees.
