Colin Turkington wins third race at Donington Park

West Surrey Racing’s Colin Turkington has won his first race since his British Touring Car Championship return – and the first win for his team’s new BMW 125i – in the final race of the day at Donington Park.

Turkington took the flag ahead of Honda Racing Team pair Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal, who both passed Sam Tordoff’s Triple Eight MG at Coppice on the final lap.

It was a dominant display from the 2009 champion, who led from start to finish and came home with a margin of more than four seconds.

Adam Morgan finished off an excellent day with a third fifth place in his Ciceley Racing Toyota Avensis, ahead of pole man Tom Onslow-Cole, who impressed in his Tony Gilham Racing Volkswagen CC.

Onslow-Cole couldn’t hang on to the leading group, but had enough left in his tyres to pass Aron Smith’s Motorbase Performance Ford Focus on the penultimate lap. Jason Plato, Mat Jackson and Jeff Smith rounded out the top 10.

Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan, the winner in race two, finished 13th after a pitstop to clear grass from the front of his car following an early off.

Joe Girling took his maiden Jack Sears Trophy win in his Finesse Motorsport Chevrolet Cruze, in 18th overall.

It was another largely clean race, despite a huge spin for Dave Newsham’s Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis at the bottom of the Craner Curves on lap four.

Miraculously, all following drivers managed to take evasive action and avoid what would have been a huge accident.

Plato still leads the standings heading into Thruxton in two weeks’ time, his lead at the top of the standings five points from Jordan, and 14 points from Neal.
