Jordan nearly missed out on pole position run
Pole position man Andrew Jordan’s Eurotech Racing team faced a race against time to get him on the circuit in time to set his fastest lap, the 23-year-old has revealed.
Jordan timed his final run to perfection in his Honda Civic to take his second consecutive pole at Thruxton, but said his team were close to not sending him out.
His crew battled an issue with the car in the pitlane, before getting him moving with minutes to spare. He set pole despite carrying 36kg of success ballast, as the second-placed driver in the championship standings.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Jordan said: “It was a bit unexpected. To do it so late in the session, and have one or two laps to get it done, is a bit more added pressure. I’m really pleased with that.
“The timing was because we had a problem in the pits. The guys had to work hard to get me ready and they were close to not actually sending me out. So it’s all thanks to them really.”
Jordan’s far-from-straightforward day started in second practice, when he was also fastest.
He said: “I had a puncture as a bit of debris cut the tyre, and I had a spin through Goodwood – I was trying to find the edge and overdid it a little bit.”
Looking forward to tomorrow, Jordan said the day would be about looking after the tyres on the ultra-fast Hampshire track.
He said: “When you get pole obviously you want to win, but if we can come away from here with three good, consistent results, that will be a good day for us.”
