Andrew Jordan leaves it late to top second Oulton practice
Andrew Jordan’s late dash saw him top a tight second free practice session at Oulton Park, with the first three cars separated by less than a tenth of a second.
The Eurotech Racing driver’s time of 1.26.605, set in the final minute, was just 0.039 quicker than Jason Plato’s Triple Eight MG, and 0.096 quicker than Honda Racing Team’s Gordon Shedden.
Plato, who had stayed in the garage for the first 15 minutes of the session, set a 1.26.644 on his first flying lap – a time which remained unbeaten until the final seconds.
Behind them in fourth was Colin Turkington, his West Surrey Racing BMW 125i continuing its good form from the morning. The Northern Irishman completed 22 laps, the most of any driver in the session.
Fifth was Plato’s team-mate Sam Tordoff, ahead of Shedden’s team-mate Matt Neal, carrying maximum ballast as the championship leader.
The top 10 was completed by the Toyota pair of Dave Newsham and Frank Wrathall, Mat Jackson’s Motorbase Performance Ford Focus and Turkington’s team-mate Rob Collard.
Independents’ leader Jordan’s time was just under 0.4 slower than Plato’s best lap from the morning session.
Liam Griffin was the fastest of the Jack Sears Trophy runners, setting the 22nd fastest time in his Motorbase Performance Ford Focus.
Qualifying for the first of tomorrow’s three races takes place at 15:15 GMT.
