Andrew Jordan fastest in first practice at Croft
Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan set the fastest time in a tight first free practice session at Croft, with the top three cars covered by little over a tenth of a second.
Jordan, currently second in the championship, set at time of 1.25.378 in his Honda Civic, 0.072 ahead of Jason Plato’s Triple Eight MG, and 0.108 faster than the West Surrey Racing BMW 125i of Colin Turkington.
Tom Onslow-Cole was an encouraging fourth in the Tony Gilham Racing Volkswagen CC, ahead of Turkington’s team-mate Rob Collard, in his strongest showing of the season to date.
The top ten was completed by the Honda Racing Team pair of Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal, the Toyota pair of Frank Wrathall and Dave Newsham, and Plato’s team-mate Sam Tordoff.
Jake Hill was fastest of the Jack Sears Trophy runners in his first ever BTCC session, sitting in for Liam Griffin in the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus. He was 22nd overall, with a time of 1.28.574.
And Michael Caine, making his season debut in the third Motorbase NGTC Focus, was a solid 19th, two spots behind team-mate Mat Jackson.
The session was delayed briefly after 18 minutes, with a red flag for debris on the track – later identified as the driveshaft from Tordoff’s MG.
The second free practice session takes place at 12:00 BST.
