Rob Collard tops abandoned second practice at Croft

West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard topped the times in a rain-hit and ultimately abandoned second practice at Croft.

The session was red-flagged after 18 minutes due to Adam Morgan damaging the barriers at Clervaux, after an off in his Ciceley Racing Toyota Avensis.

Proceedings were due to re-start after the lunch break, but were abandoned as the barrier repairs had not been completed in time.

There was very limited running in the part of the session which did take place, and only 15 cars set a laptime.

The drizzle which arrived in time for the start of the session quickly increased in intensity, making the track too wet to set any times comparable to the morning’s dry running.

Collard posted a lap of 1.29.075 early on in his BMW 125i, but the cars were quickly into the pits to change on to wet weather tyres.

Mat Jackson was second for Motorbase Performance in his Ford Focus, ahead of the Audi A4s of Rob Austin and Will Bratt, while Nick Foster and Colin Turkington made it three BMWs in the top six.

The top 10 was completed by Jack Goff, Morgan, Aron Smith and Ollie Jackson.

Jason Plato, Matt Neal, Andrew Jordan and Gordon Shedden were among the cars which didn’t set a time.

The session was missing James Cole, whose Tony Gilham Racing Vauxhall Insignia suffered a driveshaft failure in first practice. This damaged his engine, which has had to be changed.

Qualifying for the first of tomorrow’s three races takes place at 15:10 BST.
