Andrew Jordan’s only focus is overall crown
Andrew Jordan may have led the independents’ standings since the first race of the season, but says he’s not really thinking about it as he chases overall glory.
The Eurotech Racing man put in another consistent performance at Croft to take a sixth, a fifth and a third, and is 19 points behind Civic stable-mate Matt Neal at the halfway point of the season.
Jordan leads the independents’ standings by 30 points from a charging Colin Turkington, who won all three races in the class for West Surrey Racing at Croft.
Like many of the drivers, the soaking wet final race provided a huge challenge to Jordan.
He said: “It is just a case of staying on, because the aquaplaning was so bad after a few laps. It cleared a little bit, and I was trading times with Colin and Matt.
“But then the rain started coming down a bit more, and I ran wide at Tower. Then I just though it wasn’t worth the risk, and I was not going quick enough to catch them from the distance I’d just dropped.
“It is a good end to a reasonable day. Someone said to me earlier they think this championship’s won on your bad days, not your good ones. It’s actually a very good way to look at it.
“You look at my Thruxton puncture, Plato’s fire at Oulton – it is going to go up and down.”
Asked if he was still thinking about the independents’ crown, Jordan said: “Not really. I think towards the end of the year it is going to be five of us going for the [overall] championship. It is great for me to be up against four former champions.”
