Sam Tordoff tops day one of Snetterton test

Sam Tordoff led a Triple Eight MG one-two in both the morning and afternoon sessions on the first day of the mid-season test at Snetterton.

Tordoff’s best time of 1.57.534, set in the morning, is 0.061 under Frank Wrathall’s qualifying lap record set at last year’s race meeting.

He was 0.272 ahead of team-mate Jason Plato, with Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan taking third in both sessions in his Honda Civic.

Setting an impressive pace throughout was Motorbase Performance’s Nick Tandy, the factory Porsche driver setting the sixth fastest time in the morning and the fourth fastest time in the afternoon, in his first run in the NGTC Ford Focus.

Jack Goff was seventh and sixth in a busy test for Tony Gilham Racing, as the second of their Vauxhall Insignias was driven by American Robb Holland in the morning, and Howard Fuller in the afternoon. NGTC newcomers Warren Scott and Joe Girling will share the running on the second day of the test tomorrow.

Speedworks Motorsport ran two new faces in Ian Loggie and Chris Jones, who both propped up the timesheets in the morning and afternoon sessions respectively – Jones not setting a timed lap.

There was a familiar face in the second Pirtek Racing Honda Civic, with team boss Mike Jordan filling in for the absent Jeff Smith. Jordan, who last raced in the BTCC in 2008, set a best time of 2.00.009, completing a total of 60 laps.

The times listed below are for the afternoon session.
