Colin Turkington takes a dominant win in race two at Knockhill

Colin Turkington has followed up on his race one win with victory in race two and closes in to just 13 points away from championship leader Matt Neal in the drivers’ standings.

The West Surrey Racing driver shot away at the start from pole position, whilst Rob Austin leaped up to second place in his rear-wheel drive Audi ahead of Gordon Shedden’s Honda.

Aron Smith’s Motorbase Ford failed to get away at the start, but was able to be wheeled back to the pits before the pack came back around at the end of the short 1.3 mile lap.

Aiden Moffat was an early casualty in the Finesse Motorsport Chevrolet Cruze, crashing out after breaking his suspension on the kerbs on lap three, whilst Cicely Racing’s Adam Morgan and Rob Austin Racing’s Will Bratt both headed into the pits to retire just a few laps later with electronics problems.

Triple Eight MG’s Jason Plato slid down from fourth to seventh during the race, first passed by West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard on lap 11 into the first corner, and then with Matt Neal getting past Plato at the hairpin at the end of lap 13 with Andrew Jordan following right behind, passing the two-time champion down the inside along the straight.

In the Jack Sears Trophy, Liam Griffin took another victory in the Motorbase Ford, helped in part as the Volkswagen CC of Warren Scott and Mike Bushell’s IP Tech Chevrolet ran interference as they worked their way through the Super 2000 cars, holding up Lea Wood’s JWT Performance Vauxhall.

Turkington took the flag by 1.8 seconds though had maintained a four second lead throughout much of the race over Rob Austin, and although still fourth in the standings is now just 13 points behind championship leader Matt Neal.

Gordon Shedden moves up to second in the drivers’ standings, just ten points behind Neal with Jordan third, 11 points down, whilst Triple Eight’s Jason Plato is a distant 48 points behind.

The final race of the day takes place at 17:07 BST, with the top six reversed, giving Eurotech’s Andrew Jordan pole position ahead of the Honda of Matt Neal.
