Andrew Jordan to continue “obsession” with title chase

With the number one freshly applied to his Honda Civic, current BTCC champion Andrew Jordan says he will continue his “obsession” with winning the title in 2014.

The 24-year-old is heading into the new year on the crest of a wave, having also secured personal backing from energy drink giant Red Bull.

And he says he will be going all-out to become the first back-to-back champion since Fabrizio Giovanardi in 2007 and 2008.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes at the Autosport International Show, Jordan said: “”We will try and be the quickest package again, which I think we were last year. The car was the quickest car all year, on the average over the season.

“There are always areas to improve. I want to improve my qualifying, get more pole positions and more wins.

“But we will keep trying to do the same thing as we did last year, and see if we can get the same end result.”

One of the areas where Jordan’s Eurotech Racing squad stole a march on the competition in 2013 was by carrying out extensive testing programmes ahead of the season, something they aim to replicate this year.

Jordan said: “We start testing on February 4 and we have got about nine, maybe 10 test days, including media day. It is a lot of testing, and we are getting out earlier than we did last year, so hopefully we can hit the ground running.

“Testing is key, and it can kickstart your season. It gives you a massive toolbox of knowledge you can dig into during the season.”

Looking back on 2013, he added: “I can’t get away from the fact that it was a fantastic season. Even if we won it this year, it won’t be exactly the same.

“It will be hard to replicate the first win, because you get lots of added bonuses being a new champion.

“But equally I am aware I want to do the same thing. It would be just as good to win it again, and I will be equally obsessed with winning the championship as I was last year.”
