Ambitious Glynn Geddie targeting top five in first season

Former British GT champion Glynn Geddie has set himself the target of a top five championship finish in his maiden season in the British Touring Car Championship.

The young Scotsman, who has already an extensive pedigree in sportscar racing, will again team up with United Autosports as they make the transition from GT to touring cars.

Geddie said United Autosport’s move to the BTCC was “out of the blue”, but he is excited about the season ahead.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes at the Autosport International Show, Geddie said: “It’s good exposure for United and it’s great exposure for me. It is exciting times.

“It is the biggest profile in Britain. People see Shedden, Plato and Neal, those types of names, and I just want to take the fight to them, be positive about everything, and move forward with the team.

“GT is a different style of racing. The touring cars will be interesting, but door rubbing won’t be a problem.”

Geddie has already set himself some lofty aims for the year, where he will campaign one of the team’s two Toyota Avensis machines.

He said: “Until I’ve sat in the car, I won’t really know, but I’d be disappointed not to be in the top five by the end of the year.

“I will have to get used to the front-wheel drive, but I had a few laps of Silverstone in a touring car and I was on the pace right away.”

Geddie said the team will have finished the build of the car by February 14, so it will be a race against time to make the start of testing.

“The first time I’ll be in the car is at the first official test at Thruxton. Then we’ll be trying to cram in as much as possible before Brands,” he said.
