Christian Dick hospitalised after 100mph Zandvoort accident

Speedworks Motorsport boss Christian Dick is reportedly in good spirits after he was hospitalised following a 100mph accident at the Zandvoort 12 Hours on Saturday.

Dick was competing in the event alongside team-mates Tony Hughes and Ross Warburton, running a Ginetta G50, and was leading the SP3 class at the time of the crash.

With less than three hours to go, Dick was caught up in an incident on the approach of the Scheivlak corner, involving the leading Scuderia Praha Ferrari 458 GT3, and the Renault Clio Sport run by DK Racing.

The Ferrari and the Renault were involved in a heavy collision, and the unsighted Dick was unable to avoid the crashed pair, hitting the Clio at more than 100mph.

After checks at the circuit’s medical centre, both Dick and the Clio driver, Sonny Nielsen, were taken to hospital for further checks, with both in a responsive and conscious condition.

Sportscar365 reported that Dick suffered chest injuries in the accident, but was awake and talking, and that he would remain in hospital for a few days. A further update was published on the Hughes Motorsport Facebook page.

TouringCarTimes extends its best wishes to Christian for a speedy recovery.
