Colin Turkington fastest in wet first Oulton practice
Colin Turkington led the way in a wet first practice at Oulton Park, heading up a West Surrey Racing one-two ahead of team-mate Rob Collard.
Turkington set a best time of 1.53.113 on the full International layout, an impressive 0.915 ahead of Collard in the second BMW 125i, with Triple Eight’s Jason Plato third fastest, 1.281s off the pace.
Marc Hynes showed some impressive speed to win up fourth fastest in the second of the MGs, with Rob Austin half a tenth behind him in his Audi A4.
Gordon Shedden, Andrew Jordan, Sam Tordoff, Alain Menu and Nick Foster rounded out the top 10.
Heavy rain had soaked the circuit all morning and although it had stopped for the session, all the running still took place in wet conditions.
The action was briefly halted by a red flag just over halfway through, after Hunter Abbott’s Audi A4 lost power and stopped out on track near Cascades, after only completing one lap.
The repaired Proton Gen-2 of Ollie Jackson didn’t run, meaning a total of 30 cars set lap times. Team-mate Dan Welch tweeted to say the team had only finished repairing his car yesterday.
The second free practice session takes place at 12:45 BST.
