Lea Wood positive of improvement on Knockhill nightmare

Following a disappointing day at Knockhill, Lea Wood heads to Rockingham with his eyes set firmly on an improvement in form.

Damage from contact with other drivers hampered Wood’s weekend at the Scottish circuit, despite strong pace in the opening practice session on Saturday. The incidents, which lead to setup and handling issues for the JWT Performance Toyota Avensis, saw him only manage to take 23rd in race one and 24th in race three, having been forced to retire from race two.

“Knockhill felt like a case of ‘wrong place, wrong time’,” said Wood, who sits 23rd in the standings with 6 points. “I was caught up in a few incidents that were none of my business, but that’s inevitable on such a tight track. There were some poor driving standards out there too, but I’d prefer to move on to this weekend’s round at Rockingham.”

Wood took all three Jack Sears Trophy wins at Rockingham in 2013 and, as a result, goes to the Corby circuit full of optimism for another successful weekend.

“I know the circuit well and have enjoyed some success there,” he continued. “So, rather than dwell on the previous round, I’m heading there with a positive outlook.

“We’re going to work hard to get the most out of qualifying. Until now we’ve been using it for testing, having missed all of the pre-season running, but this weekend our focus will be on securing a better grid position. Our race pace has been strong all season, so hopefully by improving qualifying we can really mix it with the midfield pack.”
