Colin Turkington: “First win was a key moment”

Colin Turkington was happy with to get his first win with the new Team BMR outfit, stating that it was a key moment in his season.

The reigning champion took third in race one before securing his first win with the Volkswagen CC before settling for a points scoring 11th in the final race with full ballast on board.

“I’m really pleased with the weekend,” Turkington told TouringCarTimes. “It’s a good haul of points and to get a first win was a key moment. As we’ve seen it’s really difficult to score well over three races but I’m pleased with the days work.”

Despite his impressive pace, which saw him take pole position in Saturday’s qualifying, Turkington is still working on a race-by-race basis and is not concentrating on any possible championship challenge at the current moment.

“It’s still early days,” offered Turkington. “We don’t know where the car is, we’re still moving it forward, just trying to score all the time. In this championship you can’t win them all, you’ve just got to be there all the time knocking on the door, you just have to always be fighting.”

Moving on to Thruxton, Turkington played down his chances, saying that to get the best possible outcome he’ll just have to “keep on grafting”.

“I don’t know how we’ll go at Thruxton,” he told TouringCarTimes. “We haven’t had much of a run around there with the car, it’s never an easy track for anybody. I’ll go there and do my best, I’ll be carrying a bit of weight and that’s a big factor, we’ll just keep grafting.”
