Martin Depper disappointed to miss three points finishes at Donington
Martin Depper enjoyed a successful weekend at Donington Park which saw the Eurotech driver score his first BTCC top ten result.
Depper took a brace of points scoring results at the Leicestershire circuit, leaveing him 18th in the standings after six races, but believes he could have made it in to the points in all three races, something he has not achieved in his BTCC career to date.
The Honda driver took 15th in race one, before an incident early in race two dropped him down the order and out of contention for the points. A strong comeback drive in race three saw Depper work his way through the field and up in to ninth place by the chequered flag, the best result of his BTCC career.
“I would’ve been happier with [points in] race two as well because we started 15th on the softs,” Depper told TouringCarTimes. “I think we had a good race package but I got put round on lap two or whatever it was which sort of spoilt it, but we did have good pace so I was happy with that. I think we would’ve been at least knocking around 14th which would’ve been good for another point or two.
“Race three went well, obviously I was a bit annoyed from race two which often shows in race two, it was tough racing, tough up and down the field but it was great to cut through to where I was and look at how the boys in the front race.”
Looking ahead to Thruxton, the next stop for the BTCC circus, Depper is full of confidence following the car’s strong performance in 2014, which saw Andrew Jordan take the team’s Honda Civic to a win in the opening race before finishing second in race two.
“I’ve been looking forward to Thruxton,” Depper continued. “It’s a fast circuit but the Civic handled really well there last year and I was just getting up to speed so I’ve got a lot of confidence in the car now. The job that the boys in Eurotech and Jeff Smith are doing is fabulous so hopefully I can carry it forward.”
