Adam Morgan: “I didn’t think I’d get a penalty”
A disappointed Adam Morgan said he didn’t think he’d be penalised for creeping at the start of Oulton Park’s final race, after a drive-through penalty wrecked his chances of repeating his Thruxton triumph.
The Ciceley Racing driver finished 11th and sixth in the first two encounters in Cheshire, and was in a prime position to claim another victory when he was drawn on pole for the last race.
But Morgan was spotted creeping on the start line and although he stopped moving again before the lights went out, he was forced to give up a healthy lead and drop to the back of the field.
“It had the feeling of Thruxton again. As soon as I got to turn one it was head down, and away we went. I had a second lead and thought we were on for a win,” said Morgan to TouringCarTimes.
“I knew I’d crept a bit on the line but as soon as I crept, I stopped. I don’t think I gained any advantage off the line, but the stewards deemed I had. It’s their call at the end of the day.
“I didn’t expect it. My engineer Paul came on the radio and said ‘You’re not going to believe this, you’ve got a drive-through’. I was gutted – I wasn’t expecting it at all.”
Despite the setback, Morgan said he wouldn’t be dwelling on his misfortune.
He said: “We had P11 in race one which was OK. It was a so-so race and we didn’t really go anywhere. But then we had a sixth, and the last race would have rounded it off nicely.
“But it wasn’t to be – heads up and move on…”
