Tough weekend for Colin Turkington at Oulton Park

Reigning BTCC champion Colin Turkington was left to reflect on a rare off weekend at Oulton Park, with technical woes harming his chances of a strong result.

The Northern Irishman qualified sixth in Cheshire carrying second placed ballast in his Team BMR Volkswagen CC, but a brake issue in the first race put him out of the running for a good result.

He was only able to set the 13th best race lap as a result of the issue, but battled back to finish eighth and sixth in the final two encounters.

“It’s been a tough weekend. The weight has masked the performance of the car and it made it that little bit more difficult in qualifying,” said Turkington to TouringCarTimes,

“The brake issue we had in race one was present from the beginning so it affected my ability to put in a quick time for race two, so it put me very much on the back foot.

“But you get weekends where you’ve got to keep fighting and scrapping. Croft represents a chance for me to come back and score strongly again.”

Turkington heads into Croft 33 points behind championship leader and team-mate Jason Plato.
