Gordon Shedden fastest as Jeff Smith stars in Free Practice 2

Gordon Shedden was fastest once again in second practice as the clouds and spots of rain descended on Knockhill.

Shedden went top with a time of 51.898, the only man to have dipped beneath the 52 second barrier in either of the two practice sessions.

It was Jeff Smith, however, who held the fastest lap for much of the session, a lap he set immediately before bringing out a short red flag. With no lengthy delay the clock was not stopped and racing resumed fairly quickly.

Behind Smith the West Surrey Racing team enjoyed a strong session, with Sam Tordoff taking third, Andy Priaulx taking fifth and Rob Collard in seventh. Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan split the three BMWs up in their respective Ford Focus and MG6. Rounding out the top ten places were Adam Morgan, Jason Plato and Tom Ingram.

While Plato was able to put his Volkswagen CC in ninth, his Team BMR team-mates of Colin Turkington, Aron Smith and Warren Scott could only manage 16th, 19th and 22nd respectively.

There were a number of black and white warning flags for track limits during the session, while both Andy Priaulx and Rob Austin found themselves with black flags for disobeying the limits of the circuit.
