Mat Jackson secures pole position for race two at Knockhill
Motorbase Performance’s Mat Jackson has secured pole position for race two at Knockhill courtesy of setting the fastest lap in race one, despite losing out on victory in the race to West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard.
Jackson led the early stages of the race in the Ford Focus ST of Motorbase Performance, but lost the lead into the first corner with five laps to go to the BMW 125 M Sport of Rob Collard, but his best lap of 52.424 set in the early stages was good enough to ensure pole position for the second race of the day.
Honda’s Gordon Shedden set the second best lap, just five-thousandths of a second slower than Jackson, meaning two front-wheel drive cars will start from the front row for race two at the rear-wheel drive favouring circuit, but the rear-wheel driven Audi A4 of Rob Austin will lead off row two ahead of race one winner Rob Collard.
Team BMR’s Jason Plato, who along with Power Maxed Racing’s Dave Newsham opted to start from the back of the grid in order to get the best shot of setting a clear lap and sacrificing the result from race one, set the ninth fastest time but will start eighth courtesy of retirements.
