Andrew Jordan heads tight second practice at Rockingham
Triple Eight Racing’s Andrew Jordan topped an extremely tight second free practice session at Rockingham, heading off morning pacesetter Tom Ingram by just 0.009 seconds and championship leader Jason Plato by only 0.049.
Jordan’s best lap of 1.22.553 in his MG6 GT was set with just three minutes to go, and saw him pip long-time leader Ingram, who had led the session from just after the halfway point for Speedworks Motorsport.
Plato wasn’t hindered by the maximum 75kg ballast in his Team BMR Volkswagen CC, making up for his lack of morning running to finish ahead of the second MG of Jack Goff, who set his best lap as the chequered flag flew.
Power Maxed Racing’s Josh Cook rounded out the top five, with Gordon Shedden, Aron Smith, Dave Newsham, Colin Turkington and Mat Jackson completing the top 10.
Just outside the top 10, the returning Nick Foster was the fastest of the three West Surrey Racing BMW 125is in 11th, with Sam Tordoff only 14th and Rob Collard 15th. Honda Yuasa Racing’s Matt Neal was also far further back than he would have expected in 16th.
The top four cars were covered by less than a tenth of a second, with little over half a second covering the top 10. Jordan’s best lap was only 0.203 shy of Plato’s qualifying lap record, set in the same MG6 here two years ago.
A relatively incident-free session saw JWT Performance’s Stewart Lines have a harmless off at Deene hairpin, with Rob Austin also taking to the escape road at the same corner in his Audi A4.
