Alex Martin and Derek Palmer Jr differ on race two clash

Team Parker Racing’s Alex Martin and Support Our Paras Racing’s Derek Palmer had differing views on their race two clash, which halted the Infiniti driver’s forward charge.

The pair made contact exiting Yentwood on lap 11, which saw Palmer’s Infiniti Q50 fired off onto the grass. The stewards decided not to take any action in relation to the incident.

Both drivers gave their views on the incident to TouringCarTimes.

“Derek seemed to be going really well on his tyres. I didn’t just want to give it to him, but he had the line. I left him room on the apex and he hung me out to dry,” said Martin to TouringCarTimes.

“It was either turn in to try and stay on the track, or go on the grass. That was a little bit of a surprise as Derek’s not normally like that.

“But I think it could probably be seen both ways – they could say “you should have slammed your brakes on.” It’s six of one and half a dozen of the other.”

“The start went well, then we got involved with Warren (Scott) in Turn 3 which was all part of the concertina effect, which turned me around. I was working my way back forward, picking them off, and I passed Alex, and I thought I was through,” said Palmer to TouringCarTimes.

“We were leaning on each other a bit, but then coming through the corner it just felt like he hit me and turned me around. I’ve not seen the footage, but I’m just glad I didn’t go into the wall. Then I was back to the back and just had to pick up as many as possible, it was a bit frustrating.”
