Josh Cook hoping to transfer practice pace into strong qualifying

Josh Cook is feeling confident in his chances at scoring more podium results at Silverstone after a promising two practice sessions.

The Power Maxed Racing driver, who scored his first podium last time out at Rockingham, set the second fastest time in FP1 before finishing fourth fastest in FP2, but knows just how close it’s going to be in qualifying.

“The balance is feeling pretty good but obviously it’s so close that three tenths would drop me to 18th so it’s all going to come down to qualifying and how much quicker everybody goes,” Cook told TouringCarTimes. “We showed good pace at Rockingham in FP1 and FP2 but getting the pace out of one single lap in qualifying can prove pretty difficult.”

Cook made a number of changes to the car throughout the morning sessions, and is confident going in to qualifying that the pace they have shown is genuine and can set a competitive time.

“We’ve tried quite a lot while out there,” he added. “We were in and out the pits quite a lot but we’ve learnt a lot, hopefully we can replicate the pace we had this morning in qualifying.”

With his first podium now under his belt, Cook is aiming for more of the same at Silverstone, but is setting his sights on the top step after finishing third at Rockingham in race one.

“It’s good to get my first podium,” said Cook. “I want to try and add to that tally now and I’m pretty confident, it’s never going to be easy, you know what the BTCC’s like but I want to get on that top step now, we’ll hust have to see what happens.”
