Andrew Jordan: “Silverstone podiums are the target”

Andrew Jordan says podiums on raceday at Silverstone are his target after a strong qualifying performance which will see him line up fourth for the first race.

The Triple Eight Racing driver is still mathematically in the championship battle, but wrote off his chances of securing a second BTCC title after a troubled weekend at Rockingham three weeks ago.

Jordan is targeting podiums and a first win of the year as the series returns to Northamptonshire for the second time in a month.

“I’m pretty happy with how qualifying went. We put in a great run of laps and if I’m honest I think we could have gone a tenth or two quicker. I had a great tow from James Cole but under braking I was too close to him and that perhaps cost me. It was a great time though especially when you consider we have 39kgs of weight on-board as well,” said Jordan.

“We’ve made quite a few changes to the car since Rockingham and it feels a lot better. It is encouraging to be in the mix from race one and have something to battle with as opposed to previous rounds. We have to capitalise on this now though.

“I didn’t do a race run in practice but Jack [Goff] managed to get some laps under his belt so we have a base to work from. I’m going for that first win of the year, like I have done all season, but you never know what will happen in the BTCC these days.

“The first aim in race one has to be to bank a good lap time for race two. It is going to be a good day’s racing and realistically podiums have to be the target for us as a team.”
