74th Goodwood Members’ meeting to feature Super Touring demonstration

The stars of the HSCC Super Touring Car Challenge will take to the famed Goodwood circuit in a high-speed demonstration at the 74th Goodwood Members’ Meeting in March 2016.

16 of the top cars from the series will take part in the display, including the 1997 Vauxhall Vectra and 1998 Peugeot 406 driven by John Cleland and Patrick Watts respectively. Cleland will be racing his 1997 Triple Eight-built Vectra, while Watts will be racing the car driven by Tim Harvey during the 1998 season, which he then raced the following season in the Australian Super Touring Championship.

Also confirmed for the demonstration will be the 2000 Honda Accord of Tom Kristensen – the last car to win a BTCC race under Super Touring regulations, now raced by 2015 champion Stewart Whyte, the Rickard Rydell Ford Focus from the same season and a 1994 BMW 318i raced by Jo Winkelhock.

The Super Touring demonstrations will be taking place alongside ground-effect Formula 1 cars and the five-litre Group 5 sportscars throughout the event held across March 19-20 2016.

Additional entries include an Audi A4 Quattro, similar to Frank Biela’s championship-winning 1996 car, David Leslie’s 1999 Nissan Primera and a 1998 Volvo S40, raced by both Rickard Rydell and Gianni Morbidelli in the year Rydell won the championship.

With more cars still to be announced, another ex-Leslie car, the 1993 RML-run Ecurie Ecosse Vauxhall Cavalier and the Williams Renault Laguna of Jean-Christophe Boullion round out the grid at the time of writing.
