James Cole signs with Team BMR for 2016

James Cole will switch from Motorbase Performance to Team BMR for 2016, completing the line-up for the new Subaru works team.

The Liverpool-based driver spent the last season with Motorbase Performance, but will line-up alongside Warren Scott, Jason Plato and Colin Turkington in the quartet of Subaru Levorg Sports Tourers for the upcoming season.

Cole was a successful single seater driver in the early days of his career, winning the British Formula Ford Championship in 2009 en route to being nominated for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award. From there he raced in British Formula 3 and FIA Formula 2 before making his BTCC debut in 2013.

“I’m very excited to be joining Warren and the talented team of people he has brought together at BMR,” said Cole. “I’ve still got loads to learn in the BTCC and I couldn’t be in a better place to do that alongside Carl and Kevin, my engineer Richard Owen, and two of the best BTCC drivers, Jason and Colin. My previous successes came in rear wheel drive so I believe a big step forward can be made this year. I would also like to thank Warren for this great opportunity. I intend to make the most of it.”

Team principal Warren Scott was delighted to welcome Cole to Team BMR, adding “It’s great to welcome James to the team and I look forward to seeing how well he does in the Subaru Levorg. He has lots of experience to bring to the BMR team and I believe this is the right time and place for him to showcase his ability.”

Cole effectively replaces Aron Smith in the team’s line-up for 2016, with Smith as yet go confirm his plans for the year.
