Tom Ingram eyeing Independents crown after early season form

Tom Ingram was pleased with the pace of the Toyota Avensis in race one, believing that had there been a few more laps he could’ve moved up a step on the podium.

Starting from fifth on the grid, Ingram was within striking distance of the top three from the moment the lights went out, and constantly hounded the MG of Ashley Sutton for a place on the podium.

Eleven laps in to the race Ingram made his move, but was too far back at that point to put a realistic charge on for second before the safety car and red flag brought a premature end to proceedings.

“I came on the radio and said I could get used to this,” said Ingram to TouringCarTimes. “We had really good pace even towards the end, with another couple of laps maybe a slightly better result, really pleased. Good points, no damage, the only damage we’re going to have is 56kgs we’ve got to lug around. Yes it’s going to be a performance difference in the cars now even more so. We should be in fairly good shape for a good result. It’s going to be damage limitation in the next race and see how we go.”

Ingram is already turning his attention to the points standings, stating that he’s aiming to top the Independents table come the end of the season.

“I’m pleased, good points for the championship so I’m pleased. That’s the goal, we’ve got stiff competition from Mat [Jackson], Andy [Jordan] and Adam [Morgan]. There’s some good guys around us but my goal is to win the independents title.”
