Tom Ingram delighted with “tense” pole lap

Tom Ingram was delighted to take pole for the second time of the season, despite losing his fastest time twice due to track limits.

At the third time of asking Ingram was able to post a time within the track limits and break the lap record in the process, to go with his pole position at the opening round of the season.

“Two poles out of three attempts so I think we can all be fairly happy with that,” said Ingram. “Car felt mint. Really, really good. It was a tense, I think you could say, it was fairly entertaining. Unfortunately that’s the way it’s got to be around Thruxton. I love this place, I’ve always gone really really well around here. I love the danger almost…”

Ingram was on pole twice before with a thrilling duel with Honda’s Matt Neal, with both drivers struggling to keep their car within the lines and having a number of their times removed for track limits. Ingram eventually came out on top, setting a 1:16.161 ahead of Aiden Moffat and Matt Neal.

“Somehow we managed to go quicker than our original without using track limits, which I don’t quite understand, but I aint gonna complain,” continued Ingram. “I’ll wake up tomorrow morning have a nice strong coffee and see what we’ve got. It was by no means a perfect lap, if you put our sectors together we’d probably be in the 1:15s at least. Unfortunately around here it’s so unpredictable, you never know what’s going to happen until it comes at you, you can only do your best and hope that it’s better than anyone else.

“I think the key is going to be staying off the kerbs and play it safe to see what we can get. It would be nice to get that done, we’ve had two weekends where we haven’t taken the most points that we could. I’m looking at if we can get a win that’ll be nice but if we have to take second then we’ll take second.”
