Remaining Thruxton races shortened after hot weather causes tyre issues
Races two and three at Thruxton will be shortened to 12 laps due to “unseasonably high temperatures” resulted in a number of punctures in the opening race of the day.
Race one saw three drivers suffer a puncture on lap 10, before Matt Neal’s tyre gave way a lap later causing a huge accident on the start/finish resulting in a red flag on lap 11.
Thruxton uses a bespoke tyre from Dunlop to cope with the high-speed, abrasive nature of the 2.3-mile circuit, but the high temperatures (33 degrees track temp. in race one), pushes the tyre even further and saw a number of cars suffer punctures in race one.
The decision to reduce the distance by four laps was taken by BTCC officials to further reduce the risk of tyre issues in the remaining races.
