Ciceley Motorsport to test Clio trio

Ciceley Motorsport has confirmed that it will offer a BTCC test to drivers competing in its Renault Clio Cup squad, starting with the three signed to the team for the current season.

Max Coates, Dan Zelos and Ollie Pidgley will all be given the chance to sample Adam Morgan’s WIX Racing Mercedes A-Class when the current season draws to a close.

The move comes with Ciceley keen to help young drivers make their move up into touring cars, with Morgan sure that all three were deserving of the opportunity.

“Having seen the immediate impact the top drivers coming from the UK Clio Cup have had in British Touring Cars – and I know; I’m up against them – we feel each of our drivers after a season in the UK Clio Cup will be ready for a run in the tourer,” he said.

“We put great pride into nurturing our young drivers and really believe this adds significant value to what we can offer those joining our team in future.

“Certainly everything about the UK Clio Cup prepares the driver for touring cars as well as careers in other major categories – the technologies, the driving technique, the race craft and pressures are all similar to those found in the BTCC.

“We are only mid-way through our first season in the UK Clio Cup but have been immediately struck by the excellent reliability and performance of the car and also the very professional manner in which the championship is structured, managed and promoted.”

The championship winner in the Clio Cup already earns a BTCC test at the end of the season.
