Colin Turkington “certainly” didn’t think he jumped race one start

Snetterton race one winner Colin Turkington said he “certainly” didn’t feel like he had jumped the start, following the mid-race announcement that he would face an investigation after the chequered flag.

Team BMR’s Turkington won the race after executing a pass on polesitter Gordon Shedden on lap eight, but series officials are looking into whether he moved before the lights went out.

Speaking after the race, Turkington told TouringCarTimes: “I didn’t get a fantastic start. I got alongside Gordon but didn’t have enough to get around the outside. I thought that was my one chance to win the race.

And asked if he felt like he’d made a jump start, he added: “No, certainly not. But my team might tell me more.”

The investigation has cast a shadow over an entertaining battle between Turkington and Shedden, with the reigning champion placing his Honda Civic Type-R very well to repel the Subaru Levorg until after half distance.

Turkington said: “My car was quicker than I was expecting and Gordon was a bit slower than I was expecting. He was defending very hard into the two hairpins which are the two most obvious places to pass.

“I knew it was going to be very difficult to pass and the other side of me knows you’ve got to get to the finish, so I had to be patient, keep the pressure on and wait for half an opening.

“The one chance you have to go for it. I’m really pleased to win, I didn’t think that was on the cards today.”
