TOCA adds provision for BTCC race bans
Series organisers TOCA have reacted to the issue of poor driving standards across the Snetterton race weekend with a change to the sporting regulations, which will come into force with immediate effect.
The revision to Regulation 4.4.5 will add in a provision for drivers to be handed race bans if it is determined that their driving on track isn’t to the required standard.
‘Any driver who, in the opinion of the BTCC Clerk and the Administrator, has failed to exercise an acceptable standard of driving may be excluded from participation in the next available race or races or Championship meeting’, the revised regulations now read.
As it stands, drivers face a range of penalties for poor driving standards, ranging from reprimands and warnings through to financial and points penalties.
Phil Bennett was handed a race ban for the Oulton Park meeting back in 2001 after being involved on a number of incidents at Croft, with Vauxhall drafting in Andy Priaulx for what was his touring car debut.
