Tom Ingram happy as the best “wrong-wheel drive” runner

Tom Ingram missed out on his third pole position of the 2016 British Touring Car Championship season at Knockhill by just 21-thousandths of a second to Team BMR Subaru’s Jason Plato, but said he’s not disappointed to be the best of the front-wheel drive competitors at the Scottish circuit.

The Speedworks Motorsport driver was the top front-wheel drive runner, with Andrew Jordan second-best in the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus down in sixth position.

“We’re not disappointed, we’ll take that,” said Ingram to TouringCarTimes.

“To have done that time in ‘wrong-wheel drive’ as such around this circuit, as history has always told us this is a rear-wheel drive circuit…is pretty awesome.”

Ingram’s qualifying was hit with drama mid-way through, as the Toyota Avensis driver experience a puncture and was lucky not to crash off into the barriers at Clark’s curve.

“We had a puncture on one of the first flying laps on our second run, so that was a kick in the teeth and put us on the back foot,” he said. “(The puncture) was because of those yellow mushroom things they’ve put out on the chicane. I don’t think it’s the best thing they could be using, but I guess it’s a deterrent if nothing else.”
