Colin Turkington on title charge: “We’re not out of it yet”

Team BMR’s Colin Turkington says the battle for the drivers’ title is still on after a mixed weekend at Knockhill, with the Subaru driver finishing third and fourth in Races 1 & 2 before an incident with West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard in Race 3 relegated him to the back of the field.

Turkington leaves Knockhill 48 points behind championship leader Sam Tordoff, losing ground for the first time in three race weekends, but is still within a race weekend’s worth of points of the championship lead, but now also has Subaru team-mate Jason Plato just five points behind him in the standings.

“They were really good races,” said Turkington to TouringCarTimes. “The pace was there in the car and I was able to make progress, so I’m pleased with the performance over the weekend; it’s a shame we didn’t score some points in Race 3, but that’s where we’re at.”

On the championship battle, the two-time champion remains bullish of his chances with three race weekends to go.

“We’re still not out of it yet. We could have got a lot more out of the weekend, and the pace in the car is improving. We’re able to go forward even with weight, so we’ll keep working hard. We’ve lost a few points today, but we’ll get ourselves back involved.”
