Colin Turkington vows to push hard to overcome penalty

Colin Turkington says he has ‘considered all the strategies’ when it comes to dealing with the grid penalty he will take into this weekend’s BTCC meeting at Silverstone.

The Silverline Subaru Team BMR driver incurred his third strike of the season at Rockingham which means he will drop to the back of the grid for the opening race at Silverstone.

It means the double-champion will be firmly on the back foot going into race day as he seeks to keep his hopes of taking a third championship title alive, especially bearing in mind that Silverstone isn’t expected to play the strengths of the Levorg.

“Although I have a grid penalty to take in race one, I’m approaching the event exactly the same as all the others,” he said. “I have considered all the various strategies and scenarios on how to get to the sharp end as quickly as I can, so hopefully one of them will work!

“Silverstone National is a relatively simple circuit with three long straights and tight bends at each end, but that means your driving has to be even more perfect to gain an advantage.

“I’m not convinced this will be one of our better circuits, but I’m prepared to work hard at it and hope for some good fortune to help me play my way back into the fight.”

Turkington sits 51 points off the championship lead with six races still to run.
