Adam Morgan happy with fifth, though traffic spoiled potential pole lap
Adam Morgan qualified in fifth position for the first race of the day tomorrow at Silverstone, but the Ciceley Racing driver had his best run in the final five minutes spoiled by traffic in a congested session.
Morgan had topped the wet first practice session, and was just a fraction behind Ash Sutton’s MG in Free Practice 2, but had to settle for fifth in qualifying after traffic on his final flying lap.
“We had a good day,” said Morgan to TouringCarTimes. “FP2 went pretty well, then in qualifying we made a few little changes. We’re over the moon with fifth, (though at the end) I was on a lap which would have been two-tenths up, but I was blocked twice in the second sector.
“I went green in sector one, and so I thought we were on for a good lap, but someone went wide and just rejoined in front of me.”
Seven of the top ten drivers are equipped with the TOCA engine, which seemed to be the engine to have at the fast Silverstone circuit, though the two Hondas also managed to break into the top ten with the not-so-fast in a straight line Civic Type R, with Andrew Jordan fourth in the Mountune-engined Ford.
“The TOCA engine is working well around here,” said Morgan. “The Chevys are on the engine for next year, and they’re quick. Our engine is not usually quite as quick in a straight line, and so we’ve been having to get a tow this weekend.”
