Matt Simpson joins Colin Turkington at back of Silverstone grid

Matt Simpson will join Colin Turkington at the back of the grid for the penultimate meeting of the BTCC season at Silverstone after being hit with a penalty for an incident on track at Rockingham.

The Speedworks driver was deemed to have been at fault for an incident involving Michael Epps in the second race of the weekend, which was his sixth strike of the season.

With drivers being sent to the back for every three strikes, Simpson will now start at the rear of the field for race one this weekend regardless of his qualifying position whilst he also docked three championship points.

Matt Neal, Jason Plato and Rob Collard are amongst the drivers currently at risk of incurring a similar penalty with two strikes to their name.
