Aiden Moffat targeting podium after strong qualifying at Donington

Aiden Moffat hopes to score a podium result at Donington Park after a competitive showing in qualifying, putting his Mercedes A-Class fifth on the grid, where he’ll start ahead of Jake Hill’s Team HARD Volkswagen and the two Hondas of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden.

Moffat, who has finished on the podium twice before, ran in the top ten in both practice sessions, and set his best lap in the dying moments of the session, jumping from ninth to fifth on the grid for tomorrow’s first race.

“We left it a bit late in the day, but the top five was the aim,” said Moffat to TouringCarTimes. “It’s a good position for tomorrow, hopefully we can try and work forward and hopefully get a podium.”

With rain forecast for Sunday, the drivers’ hard option tyre selection and race set-ups are in focus, with Moffat believing his wet weather pace to be competitive in the front-wheel drive Mercedes.

“I tend to do better in the rain, so I’m not too fussed what happens,” he said. “I think we have a good wet set-up in our pocket, so that could play into our hands.”
