Ant Whorton-Eales targets top rookie honours
Ant Whorton-Eales says he is keen to challenge for top rookie honours when the BTCC heads for Thruxton this weekend after a break-through points finish last time out at Donington Park.
The AmDTuning.com driver secured a solid twelfth place finish in race two at Donington to score his first points since moving into the series from the Clio Cup UK, although a puncture in race three prevented him taking Jack Sears Trophy honours from the weekend.
The youngster has a strong record at Thruxton in the past having taken a double win last year en-route to the Clio crown and will hope to impress again when he takes to the track at the high-speed Hampshire circuit this weekend.
“I’m heading to Thruxton taking the same approach as I did going to Donington Park,” he said. “I just want to keep improving and if I can beat the P12 I got last time out, I would be over the moon.
“I think that will be a lot harder this weekend, but saying that, the way we are heading with the set-up on the Audi means it should be good in terms of front tyre wear, which is very important at Thruxton.
“Had it not been for the slow puncture in race three at Donington Park, we were on to secure the Jack Sears Trophy, so getting that nailed this weekend is my main aim. It’s important for the championship that we put in a strong performance.”
Two no scores this season mean Whorton-Eales sits fourth in the Jack Sears Trophy standings going into the weekend.
