Martin Depper set to miss final Thruxton race
Martin Depper looks set to miss the final BTCC race of the weekend at Thruxton as a result of the accident that forced race two to be red-flagged for a second time.
After an earlier hour-long stoppage whilst barriers were repaired at Church following Dan Lloyd’s heavy shunt, Depper then went off into the tyres at Village – ripping the rear wheel off the car and damaging the tyre wall.
Depper was taken to the medical centre for checks before returning to the paddock, but is unlikely to make it out for race three due to the damage sustained.
“I’d been struggling with oversteer at Goodwood from the start and ran a bit wide,” he said. “I thought I’d caught it but then the car snapped back and I ended up on the grass. Once that happened, the car just gathered speed and when I came back across the circuit I was hoping to miss the barriers.
“Unfortunately I just caught the end of the tyre wall and it’s done a lot of damage; it was a big hit. Even though the car isn’t back yet, I don’t think they’ll get it fixed and out again for race three.
“It’s been a difficult weekend for me as we didn’t start where we wanted to with the set-up and have been on the back foot. We made improvements for qualifying and then tried to go forwards in the races but it’s just not been our day.”
MG meanwhile are working hard to try and get Lloyd’s battered car on track for the third race, which is due to get underway at around 6pm.
