Tom Ingram admits uncertainty over impact of practice incident
Tom Ingram admits that it remains to be seen what impact his incident in the final stages of first practice will have on qualifying after he was forced to miss the second session of the weekend at Croft.
The Speedworks driver was one of a number of drivers to run wide at the Chicane during the session but saw his Toyota Avensis sustain heavy damage to the front end when it dug into the wet grass at the side of the circuit.
That damage was enough to keep Ingram watching on from the sidelines in the second session whilst repairs were carried out, costing him a valuable 40 minutes of track time as teams continue to try and dial their cars into the conditions.
“We’ll have to wait and see what impact it has on qualifying,” he said. “The good thing is that we weren’t a million miles off with the car in FP1, but obviously we could have used the second session to try and improve the car.
“What happened was unfortunate as what should have been an innocuous incident actually turned out to be much worse. I just ran slightly wide like any number of other drivers did but my car dug in and it did a lot of damage to the front end.
“They’ve had to replace the splitter, the radiator, the brake ducts – basically everything bar the engine needed looking at.”
