Colin Turkington leads rear-wheel drive train in second Croft race
Colin Turkington led a rear-wheel drive train to victory in the second BTCC race of the weekend at Croft.
The West Surrey Racing driver had started from second on the grid after his runner-up finish in race one but got the jump into the lead on the opening lap.
Turkington had no chance to relax however, with the Subaru of race one winner Ash Sutton firmly fixed to the rear of his BMW until the closing stages.
Sutton himself could do little to really make a on Turkington given the pressure he was under from behind from the second Team BMW car of Rob Collard, with the top three cars simply driving away from the field behind.
Collard would do his best to find a way through but, as in race one, Sutton was able to place his car in the best place to defend the position.
Such was the dominance of the three rear-wheel drive cars, fourth-placed Gordon Shedden would be more than a dozen seconds behind at the wheel of his Honda, with Andrew Jordan and Jason Plato rounding out the top six – the latter pair having become embroiled in a frantic battle for position through the closing laps of the race.
Mat Jackson ran as high as fourth in the early stages before slipping back on the hard compound tyre towards the end, with Rob Austin, Ollie Jackson and Martin Depper rounding out the top ten.
AmDTuning.com driver Jackson will start race three from pole thanks to the reverse grid draw.
After his issue in race one, Matt Neal could only finish 18th after a dramatic race that saw his battle-scarred Honda caught up in an incident through the Jim Clark Esses that saw tyre stacks sent flying, whilst contact on the second lap resulted in Tom Ingram’s Toyota sustaining suspension damage that put him out of the race.
Josh Cook meanwhile had looked good for a top six finish before a stop/go penalty for a grid infringement dropped him to the back of the field.
