Gordon Shedden holds half time advantage despite tough Croft weekend

Gordon Shedden will lead the way into the second half of the BTCC season after retaining top spot in the championship on a tough weekend at Croft.

The Honda driver managed to battle to a pair of top five finishes in the opening two races of the weekend but was then embroiled in a number of heated battles in race three that saw him bring his battle scarred car to the finish in ninth place.

Despite that, Shedden saw his points lead cut by just five points, leaving him eleven points clear of Rob Collard going into the summer break, with Colin Turkington a further point back.

“It’s been a frustrating weekend but we’ve made the best of a bad job,” he said. “We’ve come away from it with 31 points, which isn’t the most spectacular haul but is a lot more than we managed last year!

“Overall, we’ve picked up good points at each meeting this season but I still think we need to find more from me and from the car. Historically we’ve been strong in the second half of the year, and hopefully the same will be true this season.”
