Rory Butcher, Chris Milford debut in Snetterton test

Rory Butcher and Chris Milford have both been given the opportunity to sample BTCC machinery for the first time after hitting the track during the two day official test at Snetterton.

The pair joined the previously announced Brett Smith as debutants on track, with Butcher spending time behind the wheel of a Motorbase Performance Ford Focus, and Milford running with Team HARD.

Milford enjoyed his opportunity to sample a BTCC car during the opening day of the test in place of the absent Michael Epps, and would end the day 26th on the times, ahead of the Subaru of Josh Price and Stewart Lines’ Ford Focus.

“We believe Chris was very deserving of the drive today,” team boss Tony Gilham said. “He’s been a stalwart already – he worked with the team last year, races in VWs, and engineers our cars in British GT and Britcar. It’s all quite new to him but he’ll pick it up fast.”

Butcher meanwhile was called upon by Motorbase to replace Martin Depper for the second day of the test, with Depper unable to complete two days of running due to business commitments elsewhere.

The GT driver, who has raced with Motorbase in British GT and previously competed in the BTCC-supporting Porsche Carrera Cup, ended Thursday morning’s test with the tenth best time.

“It was a great experience driving BTCC car for the first time,” he said. “It couldn’t be further away from a GT car that I am more used to. I have really enjoyed the challenge.”

Motorbase has yet to find a replacement for the injured Luke Davenport, who is now continuing his recovery from the injuries he sustained at Croft at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
