Colin Turkington left to rue rare error in first Snetterton race
West Surrey Racing’s Colin Turkington lost an almost-certain win in the first race at Snetterton thanks to a rare error, but the double champion is already looking forward to making amends in the next encounter.
Turkington lost control of his BMW 125i M-Sport at the Bombhole on lap five, shortly after seeing a slippery surface flag.
He recovered from the spin to finish seventh and also picked up the extra point for setting the fastest lap.
“The race was really going to plan and I was in a comfortable position. I was well in the groove,” said Turkington.
“I went off after seeing a slippery circuit flag at the previous corner and I am the first man through. As a rear-wheel drive car it doesn’t take much [to lose control].
“The car had been very predictable through there until now. It’s never nice to give away a win but I was able to recover to seventh and take a bonus point for fastest lap. I’m still scoring and start well up in the next race.”
